The studio

About

Primera Press is owned and run by Sarah McDonald, artist, printmaker and bookbinder.

In a past life I worked as an illustrator in publishing and editorial markets before moving into the Heritage sector as a curator of photography, writer, and museum collections manager. Working with rare and heritage books led me on a journey to learn bookbinding and during Covid pandemic lockdowns I returned to making art and fell back in love with printmaking. Primera Press is the culmination of these skills and experience.

Although I live and work in east London I grew up in the Lake District and my inspiration is our beautiful, but fragile, natural world. Recycling and environmentally friendly methods and materials are important to me. Thanks for visiting — I hope you like what you see!
